Mobile Pokemon games after Go receive the resources and time they need to accomplish the goals they plan for. The console games are denied this standard because they are just foundations for the rest of the franchise and need to exist so other projects can be released regardless of how completed they are. The first trailer for Gen 8 showed the starters and the wolves as a 3D animation because the games were and are terribly optimized. None of this matters because the Switch allowed HD Nintendo games on hardware that wasn't as cumbersome as the Wii U and the huge install base of the Switch paired with people wanting to try standard new Pokemon for the first time resulted in big sales numbers that doomed the mainline games forever.
