Can you not use berries or change balls when you get a legendary/5-star encounter from PvP? I just got a Kartana encounter for the first time and it wouldn't let me feed a Pinap berry or use anything other than a pokeball (even if I selected the "remember last used ball" option).
I can't complain too much because it was 14/14/14, but it would've been nice to get some extra candies
