Well despite being wiped by a fucking Rocket Grunt of all things, Nirla the Zubat ended up being the saving grace. Route 24 is perfect for grinding this underwhelming mon, as it's full of Oddish and Bellsprout, which Leech Life took care of easily. Whilst grinding I encountered a Venonat and remembered Yellow changed the encounter tables, and thus managed to catch one. These two mons saved the run, taking out the Rocket fuck. Kinda sucks this is as useful as they'll be, as Golbat learns jack, and Venonat evolves way too late.
