I have zero problems with different gens 'retreading' a concept by having different rodents or birds and etc. instead of spamming Ratata and Pidgey at me.
As someone who was here when Gen 5 came out, these complaints were a minority back then and only became such a meme later, when people who liked it moved on but people who didn't couldn't. At its core it was, and still is, people upset they couldn't capture their favorites and instead 'had to' use new pokemon, rather than any sincere criticism of the designs. "I don't want to use Roggenrola, I always use Geodude!" and the like. This is evidenced, beyond my experience, by the fact that nobody complains when other gens retread concepts, like demonstrated in your own picture, or in gens after 5, because their 'old favorites' are generally available. Up until 8 and 9 where the general dexcut complaints overshadow and integrate this kind of concern.
