it's mostly a problem with starters, though, it's weird to have a sort of "first pet" grow into a weird not-human with a job and very obvious gender and shit; was already getting excessive in gen 4 (not super offensive or anything, but Infernape and Empoleon seem like the beginning of the end in retrospect), but it really got bad in gen 7 and arguably 6 I think.
I also personally prefer animalistic mon since I find it uncomfortable to use human-likes when they're not at least semi-animalistic, but I get the appeal and don't want them exterminated from the franchise or anything. Just less of them, and 1 at most in starter trios please
