There's so much "how was I supposed to know this" detail in Pokémon but maybe its this way just to make these long term discoveries like older games have had.
I don't like it but I see the purpose of it sort of. Except when the Pokedex isn't precise on how to find a Pokémon e.g needing a specific weather to occur while having it spawn in a SOS battle.
