It's called RNG, it works like that. I once tried to get a shiny Mareanie for a friend and gave up after 1,000 eggs. Another time I got two shiny Dratinis in 80 eggs, and most recently I got a shiny, HA Corsola in just 21 eggs. All of these were with max odds.
1/500 is about max odds anyway so you barely reached the tipping point.
