Remember, it was widely distributed throughout Paldea, so if they loved this book like nothing else it's reasonable to assume that they bought multiple copies so they could always read it regardless of where their research would take them, and the copy you get is just one of them
Think of it this way: If it really was their one and only copy of the book, then a lot more about the world would had to have changed as a result of them giving it to you instead of keeping it so Arven could have it later on a la the butterfly effect, but nothing changed
