We have confirmation through the guidebook of X/Y that there will be another region in this gen. Said reason just so happens to have exclusive berrys that just coincidentely are the same amount of berrys Hoenn used for the mini-games.
The game features numerous hints and sometimes outright talks about hoenn to the same extend Gen 3 and 4 did it when they hinted for their remakes.
Backwards compability just died for Gen 3, which is the same reason the other remakes were made in the first place. RSS don't get sold anymore anywhere (ebay & similiar doesn't count) and the classic NDS can't be bought anywhere either. It's impossible to obtain Jiraichi and Deoxys thanks to that.
For those that think there will be another Gen I remake, rather than one for Gen III, you should think about other reason than "genwunner pandering" as to why all Kanto Legendarys are obtainable in X/Y. And remember, Gen 3 was also the first time Mew was officially obtainable.
