They're also Gen II; A gen which isn't recent, but isn't Gen I either, so it gets lots of cred points for being a bit of a rarer choice. This also means that you'll see a louder minority striving to validate their tastes here.
But yeah, i agree with you on Gen II's starters being the most underwhelming Starters. At least they're not flat-out shit like Gen V's starters.
