>>50452175Look at the fucking source material. The anime was clearly writing a narrative for Ash to finally win. His competency, his character arc, the framing, the constant allusions to it in dialogue and even the fucking episode titles. Hell, this scene from before the Kalos League is the most convincing piece of evidence that exists in the narrative that Ash was meant to win. This was POWERFUL stuff, this was basically Ash talking to every version of himself that failed that he was going to carry on their dreams. The fact he promised to carry on dreams of all those who failed AND STILL LOST makes the least narrative sense in any piece of media I've ever seen, I've EVER FUCKING SEEN.
And that's just everything you see in the source material itself, never mind all the Meta evidence like all the animators and show runners being pissed at the ending of the league on twitter, and senior staff straight up leaving production after that. You don't leave a show you've been working on for decades unless something has MASSIVELY pissed you off, and considering the reaction to the Kalos League Disaster, this was obviously it.
