Design-wise, I like Mightyena the most. In-game, I've always felt like Houndoom's the most useful, at least in Platinum and XY. Shows up too late in the Johto games, unless you use the Safari Zone. That said, almost any mon can work for ingame anyway, so it all comes down to taste. If you really wanted to, you could make your prized Kakuna beat Red.
