When they "give you more options" they're also indulging in your power fantasy. e.g. in Sacred Gold/Storm Silver you're given an Eevee right after the starter and have the option of using evolution stones pretty much immediately. In Flawless Platinum you get a Manaphy in the second town. I haven't played Platinum Enhanced so it might be easier while giving you more OP stuff but don't act like all ROMHacks aren't like this.
