Greninja over Blastoise is stupid, at most Squirtle could replace him because of his popularity, Gen1 status and it being cute. But because more boys than girls played that game back then, I'd say Blastoise. Mudkips is a joke, but I guess viable as an option.
More people would know Meowth than Arceus, and certainly like it over it. etc
Suppose Umbreon could be replaced with Darkrai or Dark-Lucario.
