So I've been working on mapping out the next part of the region the past few days. It's not all done, but I want to get opinions before I move on. In case it isn't clear, the middle part is a lake at the foot of a mountain. The mountain cave is going to lead back to Daybreak Village as a shortcut for before you get fly. You're going to need a voucher to get on the island at the bottom that you'll need to get from the lake area. I'm contemplating having your mom call you and say she got you a voucher and to go back to the first town so that you'd have incentive to use the shortcut.
