It's really fucking frustrating for GameFreak to introduce actually decent features just to remove them in future titles. If they put in the extra work they could make truly special and fantastic games. The way Mega Evolution was introduced was a bit irresponsible, it could have been a tool to give niche and underused Pokemon more viability, but it was thrown on already powerful and overwhelming Pokemon and made them abhorrently overpowered. Difficulty options could give these games replayability, seasons made backtracking each route less tiresome because the scenery changed and it changed encounter rates or even Pokemon forms. The Pokemon World Tournament was a great way to introduce old champions, gym leaders, and characters without feeling like they were shoehorning them in. Even small things like putting ball seals on your Pokeballs to change the animations you saw when your Pokemon came out of its Pokeball made your Pokemon feel more special.
You don't have to keep reinventing the wheel every fucking generation. I'm not asking for the same game every year, but they should at least keep what worked in prior games instead of tossing shit out every generation and throwing in new gimmicks that won't be in the next.
To make a food analogy, they have been giving us cherries but have felt the need to remove the blueberries we liked in our last meal and have replaced it with sawdust, only for the next generation to come by for them to re-introduce those blueberries, but remove those cherries and replace the sawdust for pencil shavings. At this point they are throwing shit at the wall and seeing what works, and even when something works they still ignore it in future titles. I thought the GTS was something that would stick but nope, fucking GameFreak wanted to give us another heaping helping of sawdust in the form of using link trades only.
