It was one of the best facilities and was a good way to get a handle on pokemon you wouldn't otherwise use. Normally you would go in with your well rounded stock team using either a shitty brute force tactic or the same strategy that you always use, but the factory shakes it up and makes have to actually evaluate your selections and examine the opponent's moveset so you can build a good team for that particular streak. Getting the medal for that meant that you actually knew your shit instead of charging in with the usual and hoping that type advantage can carry you through to the frontier brain.
Just an aside, It never took me more than two tries to get the symbol for both the Hoenn and Platinum Factory. So don't play the "unfair" card. It's not any more bullshit than the other facilities.
