"Hurr durr its for fun" is seriously a weak reason. The challenge here is to create cards that work on both levels, as stand alone Magic cards that represent the concepts they're based on. Making colors, costs, and effects that are Magic relevant is part of that, and the effects need to go beyond "here's an attack turned into an activated ability."
That being said, there's a lot of folks on /vp/ that have no idea how Magic works.
