It's going INSANELY good. Chimchar was the starter just like every time before I think. Two glass cannons and some other mons died but they were all very useful before so it was not in vain (except for the rattata who made me not wipe against a mudkip in the first forest lmao)
Now I'm before E4 (note: this game has two regions so it's midgame). Three of my mons are still early game and three others are more recent but they're insane.
This game is very hard for me and this run is just extraordinarily good.
I don't want nobody to die in this E4 but I've got plenty of god tier mons in the box, mainly a shiny Abra and Zweilous.

Standard. Ultimately decided on no legendaries plus I can lock on the first encounter and run away to find the same species but the prefered gender.
Also unofficial rule of protecting the starter at all costs - without him the thread of the prophecy would be severed.
