I just watched Ambipom's release episode. Not only did it screw over Ambipom's development up to this point, it ruined Dawn's team by having her lose a pokemon. Also in the end the "Aipom/Buizel trade" also screwed Dawn over entirely, because Ash got to keep Buizel for all of DP and Dawn only got a pokemon that was with her a short while.
To this day I have no idea what the hell the writers were thinking here. The fact that Ambipom never did come back even once after this is also really strange, it's like the writers wanted to bury this pokemon entirely for some reason.
