Here are a few of my cornerstone ideas:
>every type resists itself except Dragon
>Psychic and Ghost are unique in that they are mutually super effective against each other
>Flying/Ground and Ground/Electric are the only immunities
>no type is weak to more than four types or less than three, same with the other interactions
>when possible the matchups should make at least some kind of logical sense
