I noticed something that's lacking in all the designs I've seen so far of your final stage fire starter. Thorny devils have a 'false head' on their shoulders that they present to predators. you need to capitalise on this and turn it into something original in order to leave a lasting impression with your designs. I quickly sketched something to simplify and highlight the feature. you know what it looks like to me? some sort of furnace, cannon, or any sort of projectile weapon you can think of. you could even go the wobbafett or hydreigion routes with the head.
