So, in response to people who say shit like:
>wah wah littenfriends mad it didn't just get bigger/my mom's fire cat
Why do people cite "just gets bigger" as a complaint against a design?
Most Pokemon "just get bigger". We know Poliwhirl > Poliwrath is the biggest offender of "just gets bigger", but it's also one of the only LITERAL examples, so I don't want to talk about it.
Most Pokemon evolutionary lines follow this design trend: logical growth/progression, usually tied together with a theme. Sometimes the theme is as simple as juvenile form of animal > adult form of animal, or inexperienced > master, but sometimes the theme gets a little more complex.
But most people don't give a shit about how their Pokemon evolves. People do give a shit about the design by itself. There are very few instances where the context of the evolutionary line makes a significant difference in how you perceive a design. I like Gyarados, and I don't mind the sudden change in its evolution. But the sudden evolution doesn't impact how much I like Gyarados (Yes, I know about the story of the salmon). Same thing with Venusaur. It just gets bigger. But I believe it is an extremely good design and I don't care about how it evolved.
More importantly, most people believe that good design but mediocre concept > good concept but mediocre design
So there's why most people who liked Litten are unhappy with the design. They don't give a shit about the backstory or lore or concept. They care about how it looks, which is first and foremost the most important thing about a design. People didn't want to train a beast that's essentially a human and only a cat by technicality BUT IT'S SO CREATIVE!!!, they wanted to train a cat-like beast. Period. The concept wasn't as important to them.
I'm not speaking for all Littenfags (I'm not even a Littenfag). Some of you do legitimately like Luchalitten, and that's completely fine. Just don't act dense and think that everyone feels the same way.
