Here's 2 teams I made for Smogon's Leaders Choice OM. They're Shared Power teams. the first one is a special attacking team centered around Flare Boost and Quick Feet. Drifblim can do a surprising amount of work when it has a speed AND a special attack boost and Spectrier outright dominates some teams. The second team is a Grassy Spam team utilizing Grassy Terrain and Grassy Glide with some extras. Flapple is the true MVP of this team, not only giving Hustle but also having Grav Apple not be a contact move, bypassing Fluffy which is common on stall teams

I kind of had a similar experience when I bought sword for my younger brother.
I've watched the original anime with him so he knew what Pokemon was but had never played a game. He was so excited to be able to play and pet the Pokemon it was an all around good time even though I didn't really like it myself.
