His abject rudeness is entertaining (Pic related is GOLD) but I found that he vomits his entire character arc to you (which you have no part in, by the way) unintentionally funny even as a kid. He feels like stepping stone toward a more nuanced rude rival that we never got. Good on Game Freak for giving him a type-cast team that ignores typical type variety for cool factor; it helps that it isn't terrible.
