Backporting Tangrowth's stats to Gen 1 based off Tangela's gets some hilarious results. No Ancient Power means you'd have to catch it in the wild or have it be a trade exclusive. Cerulean Cave would probably be the best place to put it, although where Tangela is found isn't terrible either, even if it just makes the not evolving thing weirder.

Too bad the best Special move it gets is Mega Drain. It's coverage in general is shit. As far as movesets go, Tangrowth's massive bulk keeps drawing my mind to Sword Dance + Rest. It might be better to run it more like a physically bulky Exeggutor though. The lack of a suicide attack hurts in that regard.

Unfortunately, it gets walled by Gangar even if you ran Mega Drain to hit it, and Jynx destroys Tangrowth. It's main saving grace is Blizzard is so inaccurate. I think it's too inconsistent. Ultimately, if Tangrowth can't eat some of Exeggutor's lunch, I don't think it would be able to hang on in OU. I could see it doing well in UU though where Charizard, Dodrio, and Moltres will keep it from getting too crazy.
