Did you not realize that the games tend to use in-game cinematics?
They do have some cinematic scenes set in higher quality locations, but those are very rare. The introduction to the starter pokemon seem to be one of those instances since the area they were playing in seems a bit higher quality than how we see it later.
The shots of the towns were all shots of how they actually look in the game, no cinematic enhancement besides some camera angles.
Those angles could still hide shit of course. No one noticed or freaked out over the trees in the Wild Area when the trailer dropped a week before E3 because the camera never focused on them. It was just during the demo when it got a closer look that people started freaking out over them.
