On the other hand, we've also got some weird outliers like an extra Magneton sprite (and the implication Magnemite was designed first, despite Magneton being earlier in the index, although that might be a case similar to Ivysaur/Venusaur or Cloyster/Shellder) and some sort of Nido creature floating around. Hell, Metwo and Snorlax are right next to each other, probably because the scenario writer came up with the concepts around that time. Of course, re-designs aren't uncommon, look at how much the Capsule Monster era sprites changed.
