In Red version, I used to go to the Northern part of Route 10 and use cut on the grass till it was just one square. I believed it would increase the encounter rate for the area because all the wild Pokemon would be trapped in a single square of tall grass. And then I'ld go in and proceed to run into Voltorb over and over again and use Sword Dance before killing them with my Kabutops. I used to think that Sword Dance stacked outside of individual battles, so in doing so I was buffing the shit out of my Pokemon for later use.
