The funny thing about it is that Gold and Crystal's originals designs don't actually matter, the redesigned versions could be nearly anything Game Freak wanted. The decision was simply made to make a new girl rather than make a presentable Kris. But then Lyra's giant hat and overall shorts are also really goofy, so she carries crystal-head's torch in that regard.
