>>28969352Probably because they have been introduced and marketed as something different and unique from Pokémon. They are only ever referred to as ultra beasts, have their own page separate from the new Pokémon page on the Sun and Moon website and aren't introduced as new Pokémon on the YouTube video's either.
That said I don't think any of that necessarily means we won't be able to catch them, perhaps they are introduced and marketed in this way to avoid spoiling something? We won't really know until we can play.
