Weapons-Grade autist here. I divide my types into two categories which I can pull Pokémon from:
>Category A: "Positive" Types
Normal
Grass
Fire
Water
Electric
Flying
Rock
Ground
Bug
Ice
>Category B: "Negative" Types
Psychic
Ghost
Poison
Dark
Fairy
Steel
Fighting
Dragon
I can't explain why I label the types the way I do but that's how I envision the types. I dislike putting Positive Pokémon on an otherwise Negative team and vice versa, so I generally avoid it. That being said, I consider dual types with both categories (E.G. Magneton with a Negative Steel typing and Positive Electric typing) to be both rather than one or the other, so I can put them on either team as long as one type isn't obviously dominant over the other design-wise, like how you would be hard-pressed to call Empoleon a Steel type over a Water type. The only real exception is when I very explicitly run my Pokémon in Positive-Negative pairs (E.G. Primape and Blastoise, Sandslash and Gengar), but I usually only do that in lockes. Also, this is paired with vanilla autism like no repeating types and the like.
