>>47570721Yes, they somehow managed to pull off a design that both feels like it's copying Red and trying to be its own unique but inferior thing. His overworld sprite's also to blame because it's at an angle that makes his hat feel similar to Red's, obscures his blue hair unlike Dawn's(even worse is his hair's not blue in the contest sprite), his bag looks too similar to RS Brendan's bag, and his most interesting article of clothing's a red scarf. The Platinum design's an improvement, but still has problems like obscuring the blue hair, wearing the poketch over two sleeves instead of just on his wrist, and having a more drab and dreary color palette than the DP one.
People give Hilbert(BW) and Nate(B2W2) crap, but at least they have more going for them than Lucas. Hilbert has the benefit of being drawn older than prior protagonists and copies Red better by having little to no overlapping color palette unlike DP Lucas, as well as different hair and bag than Red and prior protags. Nate not only gets a ton of pokestars outfits that show off his design better without being off model like Lucas', but also has unique features like a visor instead of caps or other hats, an even more unique bag than Hilbert's, warmer clothes to contrast Hilbert despite both having a similar color palette, and overwear shorts. You can dislike Nate's clothes, but at least he isn't trying to copy Red, which is more than you can say for some other male protags.
