Difference is XY have physical versions that aren't dumping mechanisms in disguise the way recent non-Nintendo console game discs are, so doing it that way doesn't work, and thus particularly bad on Game Freak's part.
>>37011400The way I phrase the disconnect is that we went into ORAS asking "Where's the late-generation content?", and the answer was that by comparison to X/Y's having next to nothing, the enhanced R/S stuff WAS the late-generation content. It made R/S remakes an easier way to say they technically provided while getting the positive feedback of a NEW game with a lot of built-in fan goodwill. And the worst part is I don't know if Gens 5 or 7 (and likely not Switch era if the 3DS is anything to go by) would have been a better time for them.
