There's plenty of people who grew up with RBY and enjoy BW B2W2, including myself.
Honestly BW caters a lot more to people who have play RBY with it having so many new monster that you next to nothing about and you have to catch them all just to see what they can do, BW are the only games that managed to recreate the magic of not knowing what you were getting into(if you avoided spoilers)
But I am happy with B2W2 to did with the Pokemon roster it's so good, along with all the other improvements, glad they didn't keep the roster the same for B2W2 or it would have really worn out it's welcome if we had the same limited options.
