Still, that doesn't explain why they didn't use Kalos, Galar, and Paldea during the Middle Ages. Part of PLA's charm was seeing the origins of various elements or ancestors of characters from the series. Why change it to what is obviously the rejected third XY game?
An imperial Kalos, a Victorian Galar, or Paldean colonies during the Golden Age of Piracy would have been more interesting.
