It really wasn't that bad. It was better than XY.

As for why it wasn't great, two things:
1. It wasn't Emerald. HGSS was essentially Crystal with cool shit added. Making it an upgrade of an upgrade.
2. Delta Episode. By not making it Emerald, they had to make ridiculous leaps of logic and ruin a great character design by making her one of the most frustrating bipolar retards ever.

The games are okay, but most people still can't get over/forgive GF for denying us the Battle Frontier and the disaster that is Zinnia.
