I don't get why so many people think Gen 8 is coming for Switch THIS year. Honestly, I think it makes a lot more sense for the first Pokemon main series Switch game to be a remake.
Think about it. Switch has sold well, but WAY more people still have 3DS' than Switch. They don't want to have a brand new Gen suffer in sales even a little to people not having the system. But a REMAKE would still sell consoles because it's the first Pokemon main series game on console.
There's also Zeraora... why would they release Zeraora in a Gen 8 game when it's the final Gen 7 mythic? It'd make perfect sense for a remake to be where it's introduced, but a whole new gen? Yeah, it sort of happened before with forms of Zygarde, but that's not an entirely new Pokemon.
As to the remake, I don't expect Diamond/Pearl remakes. I expect Kanto remakes... again.
They ALWAYS pander to Gen 1, Gen 7 in particular even only gave Alolan Forms to Gen 1 Pokemon. Alola is constantly referencing Kanto and mentioning how close it is. ASH Greninja was released into Sun/Moon. The anime not too long ago brought back Brock AND Misty. The most recent movie basically retold the Gen 1 anime's beginning while tying it to Gen 7.
They have been pushing Gen 7 HARD lately, harder than usual, and why would they debut the idea of main series Pokemon games on consoles with remakes of Diamond and Pearl of all things? Kanto was remade so long ago that that generation's games got remade, so it's perfectly reasonable for another update... and it's Kanto. Of course they want to start the main series Pokemon console lifespan with Kanto!
>tl;dr
The first main series Pokemon games on Switch will be Kanto remakes, not remakes of D/P or the introduction of Gen 8.
