Finally had time to push forward for an update. Lost Mantine to the rocket executive as they gave the Houndoom thunder fang which I didn't think it had in this version, but I was also in a bad spot HP wise across the party so it was in a way necessary.
Opted for Marowak over Onix/Steelix at this point to see how it performs, once evolved it's bulky enough to murder things, even scarfed though it's being outsped which makes me wonder how long it'll hold on for. Went to Whirl Islands after to grab a Horsea via surfing, I'll probably run with Seadra until I can get the Dragon Scale naturally from Mt Mortar, wonder what kind of moveset will work best long-term
