Complete ass. GF must have been feeling lethargic after designing the first two birds, because Moltres looks like a hot mess. Its wings look more like rubber hoses than actual wings, an issue that's only been accentuated by each passing gen, and its body resembles one of those gag rubber chickens than any actual bird. Instead of using any sort of motif to imply an element like the other two birds, GF just decided to dip their stupid rubber chicken in gasoline and set it on fire. I mean, I get that it's meant to resemble a crane, but it just doesn't really do a very good job of it in most art.

Whereas Articuno and Zapdos have had the benefit of having a unique typing, Moltres has always been in the unfortunate position of being compared to Charizard from the word go (which, for some, means its not even worth picking up as it doesn't really do anything that Charizard doesn't in Gen I). And while the flying fire lizard has gotten plenty of love from GF over the gens, Moltres hasn't been so lucky, and has pretty much fallen behind the thing it once itself was able to overshadow (at least competitively). And now that Charizard Y exists, Moltres isn't even a better Special Fire sweeper, and is limited mostly to Hurricane spam. With all that said, at the very least Moltres can function as something, and has clear goal in mind in terms of state distribution and moveset. That alone makes it far superior to Articuno in this regard.
