Yellow? fucking trash. Crystal? Absolutely incredible, at the time it was as if this was as good as it could get. Gen 3 was subpar, the remakes were incredible, but looking back Emerald couldn't surpass Crystal, it wasn't an improvement — overall this whole gen was a rehash. Gen 4 had incredible remakes, HGSS are some of my favourite titles, and a 10/10 third version
when we go back in time with Celebi and see Giovanni in the mountains, Giratina and the distortion world —this gen raised the bar. Gen 5 was incredibly fresh, it felt great to explore a new region with ONLY new pokemon, even if they were all silly nods and winks to existing mons. On top of this, the games actually got sequels — this made a big difference, for the first time it was as if they'd actually released two sets of finished games instead two rushed clones, and a third improvement. The issue with gen 5 was the hints of what was to come in gen 6. Gen 6, there is no defending you — the hand holding — the dialogue — the awful remakes — the everything you are made of — it is a sad day for this franchise, gen 6, and you are the shaman who summoned its dawn.
