That and it's only my first story. Not even my first fan-fiction, literally the first time I've ever written something that isn't for an academic grade.
I'm by no means trying to rush through the story. I plan to organize it something like Ralts in elementary school, Kirlia in middle school, and Gardevoir for high school/college/post-college.
I just think the story would be pretty boring if the Ralts didn't understand speech. Imagine that it hatches, the kid tries to talk to it, it has no idea what the fuck's going on, it can't ask for food, and it just ends up going to bed hungry.
Some advice as to how I can make the story feel more "immersed" would be nice, though.
