>>53373319Really, it's just a consequence of anime art styles changing in general over time. Old Sugimori is pretty generic by the standards of the time period; people just like it so much now because it's drastically different from the current stuff. That being said, I will say I like how characters dress a lot more realistically in the older games, at least compared to the ridiculous designs they usually get now.
Anyway, I think they should've gone the Dragon Quest route and have someone impersonate his old art style for every game; it'd make Pokémon stand out a bit more
