Serena is a perfect example of a real human for me. She started as someone who only wanted to escape which at some point most of us did experience, but along the way she did found something she wanted to do without having to change who she really is and is now also joining ash in pursuit of her own dreams. If this doesn't make her a believable character I don't know what else will.
