Dawn invites Ash and Goh to the Sinnoh Culture Fest, which is a full on recreation of Jubilife Village. The host of the event is Cynthia and she lets Ash, Goh, and Dawn partake in a catching contest to simulate how people caught Pokémon in old Sinnoh.
In the meanwhile, Team Galactic are planning a mission to bring back Cyrus, using the Legend Plate that they found. In order to do this, Saturn goes to Stark Mountain to catch Heatran, who’s power will give the plate enough energy to create a space-time rift that will lead them to Cyrus.
However, the plate’s reactor sends out a wave of energy that distresses the Pokémon in Sinnoh, causing them to go berserk. Due to this, Arceus sends the Lake Spirits to contact their allies in order to stop the impending crisis.
Eventually Ash, Goh, and Dawn run into some wild Pokémon fighting each other due to their angry state, and after stopping them, are directly contacted by the Lake Spirits who give them Arceus’ message. Before they go any further, Dawn suggests they take the wild Pokémon to the Pokémon Center.
In Oreburgh City, a news caster talks about how Pokemon near Mt. Coronet are becoming hostile. As they watch the news cast, the group are approached by Brock, and after their reunion, they all leave in Brock’s new flying car to reach Mt. Coronet. Brock’s Chansey has evolved into a Blissey, and he owns the Pokémon Center in Oreburgh.
Team Galactic are nearly seconds away from opening the rift, but the plate gets overloaded and destroys their headquarters. Heatran accidentally absorbs the Legend Plate and transforms into a hellish version of itself. Something is attracting it to the top of Mt. Coronet, so Team Galactic want to let it run free but Saturn catches a glimpse of Ash and co, and after a brief reunion, they all begin their battle.
