The game seems to recognize the original starter that a moded starter is placed over. For instance, if I were to put Murkrow over Charmander and Lilipup over Cyndaquil, I wouldn’t be able to have them on the same team because the game would recognize Murkrow and Lilipup as Charmander and Cyndaquil, two fire types.
