Ash wasn't cucked out of a Z-Ring unlike the Mega Ring in XY/XYS. If Z-Rings allow for mega evolutions, then he could get a key stone too since the title for one of the last XYZ episodes imply he's losing Ash-Greninja.
Thank fuck, Ash doesn't need that fucking failure on his team or in his reserves. Pikachu with a Z-Move would have destroyed Charizard in the league.
