Ash's Serena is just the absolute best. Gamerena is great in Masters but I ironically don't see too much Serena in her otherwise. She was more a blank slate to me until the anime fixed every character. It's even better that Ash is this forbidden territory of romance, and yet she still secured her spot as the only candidate for marriage. What's more, her departure solidified the end of any serious future ships from anyone else, and retroactively reduced the past girl ships to nothing but fanfare. And constantly whenever she is brought up her detractors have to pretend they aren't invested in shipping at all whatsoever. It's incredible.
