Real life scientists have made far worse mistakes. Anomolacaris fossils were at one point thought to be three different species, the wrong skulls have been put on the wrong bodies many many times, and Plesiosaurs at one point had their tiny tails and long necks swapped.
It's also interesting when you consider that the UK was the first country to practice paleontology. Of course they're gunna be shit at it.
