there's one central issue that makes kalos uniquely shit and forgettable compared to every other region. every region was made with the purpose of showing players something new, giving them a new experience. even johto, kanto's backyard, has a vastly different environment and atmosphere. every region, except for kalos.
kalos does not set out to show the players something new. its goal is to show them things they've already seen with a new coat of paint. XY are glorified tech demos, a $40 dollar E3 presentation. that's why it has a massive dex with so few new mons. that''s why none of the kalos pokemon are given megas. (diancie's wasn't until ORAS) it's why santalune forest is a copy of viridian forest, why there's another snorlax blocking the road. why you're given a free kanto starter, a free lucario, a free lapras. the legendary birds and mewtwo. the old takes priority over the new.
the clusterfuck that is lumiose, the roller skates, nameless flare grunts and admins having 3D models, all of it can be attributed to this. XY are not "Pokemon Gen 6", they're "Pokemon 3D".
